Janis Joplin, c'est une voix et pour ainsi dire l'icone féminine des sixties.

Janis Joplin a fait partie du groupe Big Brother and the Holding Company, qui jouit d'un certain renom parmi la communauté hippie de Haight-Ashbury (district de San Francisco). Mais Janis Joplin est surtout remarquée au festival de Monterey par l'impresario de Bob Dylan, où le groupe se produit en 1967, et à la sortie de l'album Cheap Thrills en 1968.
En 1968 elle quitte ce groupe pour une carrière solo, tout en participant aux groupes Full Tilt Boogie et Kozmic Blues Band.
Janis Joplin décède d'une overdose le 4 octobre 1970 à Los Angeles (Californie), lors de l'enregistrement de l'album Pearl.

Ha, Summertime, une chanson magnifique de George Gershwin interprétée par de nombreux artistes tels que Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald et Louis Armstrong, John Coltrane, Barbara Hendricks et.. bien sur Janis Joplin.

Ha, Le Velvet Underground... C'estun groupe américain de rock de la fin des années 1960 composé de Lou Reed, John Cale et Nico.
ll a connu une grande fertilité musicale. Les thèmes abordés reflétent l'univers personnel de Lou Reed : drogues dures, thèmes sadomasochistes, transsexuels...

De nombreux artistes des générations suivantes ont été touchés par le Velvet : une partie du rock alternatif anglophone, du glam rock et de la New Wave.
